#1 of 10 Ways to Quit Smoking: Quit cold turkey
This is probably the most common and cheapest way to quit smoking. Read these stories of how several people succeeded in quitting smoking cold turkey.
#2 of 10 Ways to Quit Smoking: Wean off slowly
Here are two people's stories of weaning off slowly.
I quit smoking by slowly weaning off my need for cigarettes. My decision to quit was influenced by my mother smoking and the effects they
cause to your body. My method I used was to smoke a little then break the cigarette or telling myself not to smoke.
It was very hard at first, but after doing that I would get headaches from the smell of smoke or get dizzy from puffing on one. The pros of
quitting are taking steps to become a healthier person and knowing I have control of my actions, and the cons are the need to smoke
occasional.
To this day I still get headaches from smoke and I hate the way they taste and make me feel. I didn't have nicotine withdrawals except the
urge to smoke. My advice is to have control of yourself and learning to tell yourself no, and understand that the effects can happen to
anyone.

I recently quit cigarettes back in February of 2007. I gradually smoked less and less of each cigarette until I did
not even have the urge to light up. I faced no actual withdrawl symptoms, maybe just being very edgy for quite a time. My spouse has not
quit, so that was a con to my situation, but I managed to stay away from cigarettes still to this day. So basically I just kept taking less
drags from each cigarette, put it out until later, and then finally lost the urge to even light up. The best choice I have made in quite a
long time, for health and money reasons. This method probably would not work for the majority of people, but it worked well in my
case.

#4 of 10 Ways to Quit Smoking: Support From Your Friends
I decided to quite smoking when I going to move and I needed to clean the house before putting it on the market.
I did not realize how smoke affects everything. I had to put a primer on the walls before I could repaint them and I found out that the blinds
were actually white. That was it for me. I asked friends if
they could help me quit.
I didn’t mean taking the cigarettes away. What I did mean was supporting my decision by not
smoking in my presence, encouraging me when I felt the craving, and offering alternatives. It is very important to have the support of others
when you decide to quit. I had tried before but this is the first time I really felt I could do it. And I did. I found out that calling a friend
on the phone or having a friend over for a meal or after I ate distracted me from that dessert cigarette. My friends also helped me to see the
amount of money I saved by not buying cigarettes. They made some great suggestions about how I could spend it – in a healthy way. And I sold the
house.

#6 of 10 Ways to Quit Smoking: Focus Your Attention on Something Else
Here's one guy's story of how this worked for him. I quit by focusing my attention on something I wanted
more than smoking, a girl. Plus she didn't like smoking and that also helped. I decided to quit to be with her and my
love for her influenced me to stop. Also, my lack of a job and money made me tight on cigarettes so I slowed way down and
practically stopped very slowly.
I initially got really sick randomly and that led to me stopping smoking for a while. After a few days of
being sick I forgot the whole smoking business so basically put yourself in a position where you can't smoke or wouldn't want to. The
pros of my method are that since I associated my sickness with cigarettes, whenever I thought about cigs later I thought about being
violently ill. The cons are that when other people smoke around you later you get bothered by it a lot more.
Nicotine withdrawal symptoms were just irritability and restlessness, nothing short of expected. My
Advice: In the end, decide to quit smoking for yourself, not someone else. Also, think about all the famous Americans and people you might know
that have cancer or that have died of cancer. They didn't always smoke. They didn't always need a cigarette to feel better, and if they weren't
exposed to them they would still be alive.

#9 of 10 Ways to Quit Smoking: Wellbutrin
One of the therapies for quitting smoking is the use of a drug called Zyban. The generic name of Zyban is buproprion hydrochloride and also
goes under the names Wellbutrin or Wellbutrin SR. Originally used as an antidepressant, it was observed that people taking the drug lost interest

#10 of 10 Ways to Quit Smoking: The Nicotine Patch
Here is one story about using the patch to quit. I have been cigarette free for 1 year now. I used the
nicotine patch to help me quit. I drank a lot of water which helped get the nicotine out of my body faster. The reasons I quit smoking were
mainly my son, money and my health. I didn’t really have any symptoms of quitting smoking just the usual cravings and occasional bad
mood.
Quitting smoking can be very hard, but using the nicotine patch really helped me. The good thing about
using this method is that it eases you off the addiction slowly. One bad thing about using the patch is that you need to be on it anywhere from 4
– 6 weeks depending on your personal situation. But it is a better route than quitting without the help of the patch.
Some advice to those who are trying to quit drink lots of water, chew gum, eat healthy snacks when you
get cravings. A craving doesn’t last that long, when you get a craving don’t think of the cigarettes get up and do something else to get your
mind off it. Also ask your doctor for help they have a lot of options for you to help you along the way. Good luck!
