Depression Quit Smoking

Some people get withdrawal symptoms of depression quit smoking...here's my story.  I had been smoking for more than 40 years—since the age of fifteen—when I was diagnosed with chronic emphysema. Around this time I found out that my oldest daughter Lily was expecting a child. I was overjoyed, but also disturbed with the realization that my time with my grandchild was inevitably shortened because of my addiction. Although my past was heavy with my failures, I became determined to live, so that I could teach my grandson Cody that life is a precious gift that’s never too late to appreciate.

I started by checking out every book on smoking addiction from every library in the county. Information is a powerful tool to change lives, and I learned that the path to success for every addict is different, and every failure is in actuality part of the road to success. Although I used many different techniques, my greatest strategy was to realize that the only real failure is to stop trying. The most challenging withdrawal symptom which I faced was depression, which I treated with nontraditional medicine—acupressure and hypnotism—as well as receiving the love and support of my family and friends. Today I am alive and I owe it to Cody—we are both starting brand new lives.
